Lyle’s AOPs

Posted by Rocambole on Oct 28, 2012 in Misc

Leprechaun made of bottle capsLyle has become known in the DAP community for his object-based AOPs and original paintings. This leprechaun painting made of bottle caps is a typical example of his style which has its roots in the early days of DAP. DAP’s predecessor was the Arcimbolder which made paintings using fruits, nuts and vegetables as brush strokes. This again was inspired by the Italian painter Giuseppe Arcimboldo (1527-1593), best known for creating imaginative portrait heads made entirely of such objects as fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish, and books – that is, he painted representations of these objects on the canvas arranged in such a way that the whole collection of objects formed a recognizable likeness of the portrait subject. DAP’s Vegetables AOP reminds us of this origin.

Leonid AOP

Posted by Rocambole on Oct 18, 2012 in AOP Templates

Leonid Afremov (born 12 July 1955 in Vitebsk, Belarus) is a Russian–Israeli modern impressionistic artist who works mainly with a palette knife and oils. He developed his own unique technique and style which is unmistakable. Afremov is mainly known as being a self-representing artist who promotes and sells his work exclusively over the internet with very little exhibitions and involvement of dealers and galleries.

Before the advancement of online sales and eBay, Afremov was a struggling artist. He was born in Vitebsk, Belarus, and lived there until 1990. Between 1990 and 2002 he lived in Israel, and from 2002 to 2010 in Boca Raton, Florida. Afremov currently resides in the popular resort town Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico, near Cancun. He paints mainly landscape, city scenes, seascapes, flowers and portraits. Most of his work is considered very colorful and politically neutral. (From Wikipedia.)

This AOP is trying to recreate his style, with big palette knife strokes gathered from his own paintings.

Squary

Posted by Rocambole on Apr 16, 2012 in AOP Templates

This AOP was on the old and long gone DAP forum and was created by Honzakov. It has been asked for a few times the last couple of years so I have now taken the liberty of uploading to the café to make it more easy to find. I suppose Honzakov (who has not been present in years) won’t mind.

Intaglio / Intaglio Fine

Posted by Rocambole on Dec 6, 2011 in AOP Templates

I don’t remember who created these two fine AOPs since they didn’t come with any informative help files. They were originally published in the old and long gone forum and the creator seems to have left us. But I suppose he or she doesn’t mind them being distributed one more time.

Cracked Wall Canvas

Posted by Mary Warner on Nov 1, 2011 in DAP Canvas, Misc

This canvas provides an interesting background for a DAP painting. For diversity, you can also emboss this picture and invert it (or not). This is a 100% crop from a painting showing the effect. You can either load it into your DAP canvas directory (and it should work for either DAP x64 Pro or the original version) or you can add it as a layer in your graphics editing program with an overlay blend, which will give you a bit more control over sizing and opacity. Right-click and choose “save target as” to download: Cracked Wall Canvas

Brushstrokes Canvas

Detail of brushstrokes canvas overlay
This embossed brushstrokes canvas can be used to emulate thicker paint brushstrokes on a DAP painting. It was created from some of the strokes in the new DAP GoghHD template. This is a 100% crop from a painting showing the effect. You can either load it into your DAP canvas directory (and it should work for either DAP x64 Pro or the original version) or you can add it as a layer in your graphics editing program with an overlay blend, which will give you a bit more control over sizing and opacity. New Simplified Way of Distributing user templates

Posted by admin on Sep 19, 2011 in AOP Templates, Authors Guides

Beginning version 2.5.4 DAP has new build-in way of archiving templates for distribution as a single DPK file and also correctly installing those archives from the created dpk archive.
This should avoid the confusion what files go where for users trying to install the template and also make easier to collect all the files when distributing.

Deep Forest

Posted by Rocambole on Aug 11, 2011 in AOP Templates

In the beginning this AOP seemed only suited for forest paintings and was therefore named Deep Forest. It was primarily meant for paintings with large, rough strokes but in the end I also made a version with thinner strokes. It now has several palettes and is hopefully also usable for other motives than trees.

Classics AOP

Posted by Rocambole on Aug 3, 2011 in AOP Templates

During creation of new AOPs I make lots of brush strokes and colour palettes that I don’t use. But sometimes I find out that one certain set of strokes works better with another palette than the one it was meant for. Classics is a collection of four different styles made of previusly unused combinations of colour palettes and brush strokes.
